■ 研究概要

家電製品や車には、金や銀、プラチナなどの貴金属が大量に使われています。それらを廃棄する際に上手にリサイクルすれば、貴重な資源として再活用できるのですが、家庭にとどまっていたり、不燃物としてゴミ処理場に積まれたままになっていたりすることが少なくありません。それらに含まれている貴金属をかき集めると、日本の都市には、金で世界の埋蔵量の16％、銀は22％が眠っているといわれます。まさに「都市鉱山」です。私たちの研究室では、自動車のマフラーから白金を取り出す方法を研究しています。基本的には鉱石から精錬する方法と同じですが、効率よく行うために、温度や酸素の濃度、混ぜ物の量などを最適に調整する必要があります。日本の資源問題を担う重要な研究。最適解を求めて日夜実験を繰り返しています。
