|
リーマン・ゼータ関数など整数論で重要な特殊関数の著しい性質として、関数等式（対称性）をみたすということがあるが、このような関数等式の根拠を説明する理論のひとつが、概均質ベクトル空間の理論である。概均質ベクトル空間の理論により、線形代数で登場する行列式などから、関数等式をみたすゼータ関数が系統的に構成できる。このようなゼータ関数は、整数論のみならずさまざまな分野と関係しており、たとえば、ゼータ関数の極の位置を記述するb-関数というのは、代数群の表現論においても登場する。概均質ベクトル空間の理論のすぐれているところは、これらの不変量が具体的に計算できるという点であり、実際に計算してみると当初の予想とは異なった結果になっていたりするのが面白いところである。
