広く非平衡状態の解明をテーマとした研究を行っている。特に熱力学的非平衡状態にあるガラス状態および準平衡状態にある過冷却液体を熱力学および動的構造の視点から解明したい。キーワードは，時間スケール，ガラス転移，緩和過程である。時間スケールの異なる測定装置（中性子準弾性散乱，動的光散乱，断熱型熱量計）を用いてガラス状態を測定し，時間スケールの間の関連と特徴を探っている。その他に，液体およびガラス状態からの結晶化，タンパク質の動的構造といったテーマに取り組んでいる。
