概要 Many critics have considered Thomas Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd, but they have hardly referred to Fanny Robin as a character in this novel. The reason is that she is described not as a character but as a fragment as if she were one of Troy's belongings. She is marginalized and fragmented as Troy's possession, despite the fact that she plays an important role in the narrative. She has the power to destroy the marriage between Troy and Bathsheba Everdene. This paper examines how Fanny functions in this narrative and why the death of her baby who is described as a Fanny's fragment is indispensable to this narrative.
