概要 | This study quantitatively investigates the impact of project managers’ (PMs’) illusion of control on project performance, specifically in terms of quality, cost, and delivery (QCD). An online survey was conducted among student project teams at Chiba Institute of Technology, focusing on evaluations from team members excluding PMs. Results showed that teams with PMs exhibiting a weak illusion of control achieved the highest and most stable QCD outcomes. Teams with strong illusion showed improved quality but suffered from cost overruns and inconsistent results. Moderate illusion led to stable but unremarkable performance. Additionally, when team skill levels were low, project outcomes were unstable regardless of PMs’ illusion levels. Conversely, high team skills combined with weak illusion yielded the best performance. These findings suggest that realistic self-awareness and thoughtful team design contribute significantly to project success. |
